Diablo 3 Release Date

While no official release date has been announced yet for Diablo 3, there has been much speculation to a potential “ball park” figure on the launch date for the much anticipated title. Needless to say, it’s going to be a big year with as many releases as blizzard has planned for the near future.
A recent leak from Blizzard’s parent company, Vivendi revealed that the newest World of Warcraft expansion is due sometime in the fall of 2008. In addition, Starcraft II is also due out around Christmas.
So what does this tell us? Well, if anything it reveals a pattern of release timing. After the first announcement of each of these respective games their release dates were scheduled between 8 and 12 months later. I believe this same scenario should hold true for Diabo III.
This would put the game’s release date between March and July of 2009. A release date during this time fame allows Blizzard’s other title releases to soak up all the economic benefit to further bolster the companies revenues for the 2008 fiscal year. With no current releases or expansions scheduled for the 2009 year, it would be a pretty bleak stock outlook for the company to not release a game before Q2, or at the very latest Q3 of 2009.
Of course, all of this is just purely speculation, but with any luck we’ll here of a leaked release date in the coming weeks and months as the rapid development of this much anticipated title continues.

I hope so too, but you know Blizzard…they have never been one to release a game that wasn’t 100% polished.

Wow, if that turns out to be true I would be VERY surprised, but if it is that’d just be awesome. I’m going to try and look up some of my blizzard insider friends and see if i can get some sort of confirmation on that.
No it wont be released this year, my dad works for blizzard he’s the GM of arc files, he said something about mid-year in 2009 or late 2009 around christmas.

funny you’d say that chris, I recently had to give it a re-install for old time sakes. Even after not playing in 6 years it was still a blast..probably going to have to give it a few more days! =D

What do you mean install/reinstall D2 after X years? Are you joking? Seriously? I have made sure that I keep it on any rig I happen to be using. I mean wtf are you talking about being away from Diablo 2 for a number of years??? Ok I admit I don’t play it all the time but I like to have it ready for when I feel the need to kill cows or start a fresh squishy level 1 char. I mean this isn’t MS Dungeon Siege here it is Diablo 2. I am planning on taking a break from motorcycles and pretty much every thing else (personal hygene maybe) as soon as D3 hits the shelves. I might even dump what ever ho I am with at that time if she complains. The farm (for real I work on my parents farm down the road from my place) just might go to pot. I by no means am a “gamer” in fact I use to be a drug addict with a gaming habbit. Now I am recovered I play with bikes, but OMG D3 I am so amped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need to grab some lube man cause I have been a walking hard on sense the announcement!

I think it will be release in the summer of 2009 also, since more people will have time to play during summer. I also remember D2 Exp was released in the summer. I bought it once i heard it was out. Anyway D2 used to be my daily meal. Fed me all the time. :) I hope they still have PK lol, i love PK and trading. I hope it will be more Strategical and chars will be more balanced out. The graphics are awesome.
No doubt it will be released years from now. I have been checking http://www.diablo3release.com and they are posting updates every day but nothing specific about the date – more like info about what’s in the new release.

On another note:
Each release in the Diablo series has been better than the last, so I’m not worried about the playability of the game. Unfortunately, Blizzard has seen the need to charge players to play WOW. Will this obnoxious policy apply to D3 I wonder? Unfortunately for my bank account, I’m going to pay to play if i have to. If I may wax philosophical, that really bites the big wazoo.
Still, Can’t wait, already have an email notification set up. I figured it was either D3 or do drugs (Can’t afford both).

Well the released gameplay vid was just a small dungeon blizz made to show viewers the kind of environment and graphics changes but then again showing you an acual dungeon would have taken far too long so its not to say the game isnt damn near finished. At least blizz waited until it was acually somewhat close to the release instead of revealing it 3 years before the acual release. A mid to late 2009 release would sound about right since the game probably does still need a bit of polishing but overall unless they decide to hold it off for an eternity it should be a pretty good guess that it will be a 2009 release which, honestly, compared to some other titles which did not launch until a few years after the expected release date, i can totally wait for. =)
Ahem, aren’t you people forgetting? The original diablo team is gone, left blizzard years ago. Will that affect the quality of this game? it already has, everyone is complaining that the art style is toony like WoW, well, that’s your first sign that the original team is gone. Don’t get me wrong, I have been waiting for this game for years, and was getting worried it would never be announced. While this could potentially be the best PC game ever, that thought is still haunting, that this is a completely new development team from the epic diablo 2. Before you shoot your load all over the screen when they announce a final release date, keep that in mind that you’re taking an old game and remaking it with a new development team. Could be completely awesome, could also be disappointing, time will tell. I’ll see you all on the game, cheers.
I think the new team might do better. The old team is still working on a game that is 3 years alter, unplayable.

i would say this game wont be out until late 2009 maybe even early 2010..they have only barley completed the first act and are working on the second while they are still trying to finish up the characters.and i know they wont release it until they know its completely perfect or else they would receive a shit storm from the fans.

Blizzard are no fools, they wouldnt have announced Diablo 3 if it wasnt far enough into development. I’d say a year – next autumn or xmas. they wont mess it up trust me! i just hope they make it as dark and replayable as Diablo 2 was. I cant wait.

well some of your guyes estimations are somewhat similar to mine, im not for sure about a next year release??? im thinking more around like Jan to Mar of 2010, because the variations the are trying to incorperate into the game. and from the looks of the trailer its far from being completed. i wouldnt be getting all ancy for an early release, take d2 for example diablo was released in 97, d2 2000, and d3 has only been in devolopment/ speculation for about 4 years. do the math its gonna be a 2010 game im thinking. and im basing that estimation just on the intricate designing that they are puttin in the game, so im guessing about a 5-6 year devolpment tops??? …but god i hope im wrong! im soooo ready for it! and to answer that one guys question the necromancer has been removed as a playable character and replaced with the witch docter, im my eyes thats pointless they are basically the same character but look different. i think that they should have just added to the necromancers abilities and not mad him a playable character untill you have beat the game, kind of like a reward you know. but oh well who am i to stop them from doing what they will???? anyways, Blizzard hurry up im growin tired of waiting sooo long on your games

Apparently blizzard has been working on Diablo III for 3 years now so they could be closer to completion than expected, or Maybe its just wishful thinking. wow was never really that cool for me, blizzard got me hooked with diablo, then diablo II, then LOD, and i havent stopped playing it. ive taken many breaks but never stopped officially. (the longest break i took away from it was like about a year or a year and a half maybe). i know diablo 3 is gunna be globally the best game ever made, game of the year, and chart topper, knocking down WoW back down to a respectful #2, behind diablo3 that is. i can’t wait to see how the gameplay / dueling / items and basically everything is gunna be… i promise youll run into me and get slain in a duel somewhere in the day. useast sc l 4 life. thats probably going to change though. maybe not, we’ll see. i think they are going to need more servers though as this is an insanely anticipated game. its going to be huge for sure.

First Blizzard gives us the heads up that Starcraft 2 is in the making…and every Starcraft fan starts drooling over their keyboards in anticipation, prowling the net for screenshots and gameplay trailers. THEN, they drop a bomb…DIABLO 3! And the rest of the world starts drooling and even shits their pants (“New York Times: Man Shits his Pants Following Blizzard Announcement”). So now we are waiting…and all we can do is watch stupid trailers and screenshots. AT LEAST GIVE US SOMETHING! What I want to see is at least a DEMO of Starcraft OR Diablo to play over…and over…and over, to pass the time until either game is released. You know, just SOMETHING. When they release a playable demo we’ll know we’re getting close until a demo comes there is no point in getting overly excited because it’s still a long way off.

If you look at the character classes and the game play video on the D3 website you’ll notice that there’s only two characters: the Witch Doctor (female or male) and a Barbarian (female or male). I don’t know about you but that sounds like a pretty crappy choice of characters.
btw, duels on Battle net will be extremely boring.
Just realised there’s three (wizard, barbarian and witch doctor). Still that dosen’t make much of a difference. In D2 there’s 5 characters, now thats a good selection.

I want to see this game released as much as anyone else, but realistically, I’m guessing late 2010 at the absolute earliest. A Blizzard employer was recently quoted as saying Diablo III is still years off (meaning 2+).
Man as a great diablo and Diablo 2 fan i hope this game has online features and i hope they crack down more on “hacks” this time to mkae the game more challenging and stuff like that. Also hope that they give us the players the ability to create guilds/join guild and the let us battle each other online. That would be awesome. I do hope it gets realeased ASAP as soon as it does GOODBYE all other videogames for me.lol

I have watched the gameplay videos sooo many times and everytime I look at them, I have this HUUUGE URGE TO PLAY IT! It is probably going to be released in 2009 though, but I still wish blizzard would hurry up with it, I mean, if there were some minor problems, they could fix them with patches etc, I wouldn’t mind ^^
Diablo III looks like a great game but the only thing im worried about is the payment. Those of you who are wondering why there are only two or three character classes arent very smart. They are just releasing screenshots and info about the game and chars. They will probly relase like 5 characters and then make and expansion with more characters to make more money :)

@Ayy – I don’t think anyone is wondering that at all…Blizzard has already confirmed that D3 will launch with a total of 5 classes. I really don’t understand how the idea of sequential additional of content is a bad thing, especially for a game that will not be subscription based.

Diablo III WILL be out in 2009. Period. A couple of years ago, I came across the site of a former blizzard employee. He said that they have actually been working on diablo III since shortly after Diablo II came out. However, when they nearly completed a version in 2004, the game looked great but didn’t have the fun or feel of the previous 2 games. The premise of that game was MMORPG where you decided to either join heavens army, or hells. There were dual versions of all equipment in the game for whatever side you were on.
It wont come out in 2008 because of the WoW Expansion. Starcraft II has been pushed to 2009 as I understand. That would place Diablo III as a holiday 09 realease.
For those of you saying that it will come out holiday 08 due to a need for money, don’t bet on it chaps. Do you have any idea how many WoW subscribers there are out there paying $15 a month to play that lackluster game. They have tons of money and tons of time to make this game the game they want it to be for us.
Oh yeah, and there will only be 5 character classes, which can be either gender. This does not constitute calling that 10 characters, as they are the same 5 characters, only gender swapped.

I realy dont know when D3 is coming out but surely none of us can wait for it but Blizzard always take their time because they have no publishers no deadline… they can work on a project as long as they want ! Ok it seems really fun to guess. I want to guess too. But first. There are going to be 5 character classes on release. Also how wierd would a female barbarian look? I can’t imagine that looking cool. Anyway Starcraft 2 is closer to release than Diablo 3, we all know that much. I think SC 2 will be released between March-July and Diablo 3 released a year later. I think now that they releassed Wrath of the Lich king they can work on SC 2 and a little bit of D3. Then when SC 2 is released they can go full fledge into D3. Thus my theory of a year after release. Anyone agree with that?

OMG!!!!! i CAN’T frinkin wait till mid of the year, but then again i grad around that time so i can ask for it as a grad present.
One thing i would really like to have in the game in the mini map in the background of the screen thing, that helped alot in diablo II, the other thing is easy, not confusing maps like in dungeon seige (i hated thos maps i always got lost) just nice, easy mpas were there are only 1 or 2 ways to go like in diablo II
I find it funny having just sat here reading all the posts on this page. Diablo has a large community, but so do a lot of other games.
Loved how you guys keep trying to guess the release date but will all probably be wrong. was about a year and a half from lich king announcement to release, and that was just an expansion.
Also loved how in one of the earliest posts, some kid said his dad worked for blizz and gave a rough release date.
well i have known people working for them and i can tell you if that kids dad was really working for blizz, he wouldnt run his mouth like such as anyone who knows anything about working for blizz is they are very, very tight on matters of security and info and a simple GM would not even know about such a thing.
Keep up the hope though, it will come out eventually……..unless it becomes the next starcraft ghost which got too hyped and died in the making.

I’ve been huked on DIablo 2 LOD since it came out. I haven’t played it consistently for the last few years, with college going on….But that game was my life for awhile….(sad I know, please don’t cry) But for some reason I always have this itch to go back and play it and pwn diablo and his noob brothers….I just hope that this game is the same way…I want to be excited to replay this game as much, if not more than i was with D2 LOD…..
As for Blizzard having a new dev. team for this game….I’m not worried, sure it looks a bit like WoW, but the visuals from the demo were phenomenal. And I’m sure they’ll take a few lessons from the previous D2 team and deliver an awe inspiring game of epic proportions.
The only things on my wish list are Hardcore and Softcore realms….HC all the way…..
Until then I’ll keep doing TacoBaal runs in the realm of D2LOD….Maybe look for some keys……who knows….

I can’t wait for this game either, but it’ll be well worth it. Blizzard is one hell of a company in many ways. And one of those ways is that they don’t release games before they’re done. I expect great things from this game and very few problems. I’m not quite sure how they can carry the story line, but I can’t wait to find out. Play hard fellow D fans!

dudes ive been playing sicen highschool thats 2000 i think its about time. love d2 but we as your fans deserve new misions and powers, also dont make it so easy i kinda like a challange, seems like everyone lately makes the same chars and with the same items bunch of copycats, seems to me the pro lies in the fact that u made it way too easy to obtain good items and way too many highrunes are droping. what about an aztek warrrior on the next game? im a big fan of my culture let me know if u need some ideas about aztecs! thanx for listening blizz thats if u actually do!

While I’m an absolute blizzard fan, all of you claiming “You know Blizzard, they never release a game that isn’t 100% polished” need to stop just throwing your money at them. Their single largest profitable business venture for a game was and still is WoW….if anyone recalled when they released it, it was clearly not done with BETA testing, which they pretty much used live to test and correct during the first month to month and a half. That fire time period patched the game almost as much as the rest of the first year.
Blizzard’s awesome, don’t get me wrong. Just don’t give them TOO much credit.

BUT i gata speak my class predictions. Since there is the Male/Female thing now, they gata stick with being a little realistic, seeing as a male amazon would be a little…you know out there @_@. Heres a few cool ideas huh?
Samurai: D3 has to bring back the class only items from LOD and a Katana would be cool to use as a samurai, or maybe some of thos cool lookin triangular straw hats.
Arch angel: I always looked at tyrael and thought how cool it would be to be that guy, leme know if anyone feels me here.
Those suggestions were all replacements like, Viking to amazon, Arch angel to paladin and such, but i think itd be pretty cool if we got some unique classes, just out of example im gana say like a whip or chain user call it a ChainLash or somthing i dono. But all new ideas would be cool too

oooommmmggggg its finally outttt!!!! It just was said that Blizzard is releasing Diablo 3 JULY 12th!!!!!!! I found out cause my friend is a project manager on Diablo 3 ( lucky huuhh).
Blizzard will milk this release date until everyone that wants to play it goes INSANE. I mean really, think about it. This game will make WOW freaks convert. It’s going to make so much money in the first DAY that Blizzard can release it whenever the hell they want. I’m also pretty sure that once it ACTUALLY comes out, everyone that knows it’s out will spontaneously combust in a raging fit of pure joy. Just one big .. BOOOOOM! Think about it =)
Heck I remember when I was in high school, back in ’04 the rumor’s started flying around that the Diablo 3 domain had be bought by Blizzard. That is how long i’ve been waiting, and I will patiently continue to do so. Also waiting on Starcarft 2 which has yet to announce a release date as well. All in all Blizzard takes its time on these games so ensure that we get a worthy product, and not something that was slapped together.

more accurate release dates are the 4th quarter of ’09 so it’ll be out for christmas…

Personnaly, i played diablo 2 like hell 2 years after the release date.
I would easily pay an extra 200$ to have that game right now…
but if it is a WOW based game and you have to pay a monthly fee or whatever.
I doubt much people would play on a long term basis.
except for the people that play WOW and pay that fee, but i doubt they would leave their level 50 accounts or whatever too spend more money on diablo 3
